UMBUG is a network of institutions of higher education in the Midwestern United States. Our institutions have all licensed Banner software, and are committed to collaboration, and resource sharing to solve common business problems, manage costs, and advocate effectively with Ellucian and where appropriate, with other vendors.

Common topics of current interest to users are selected from direct feedback of a Planning Committee. Each conference also includes networking opportunities in small round table break-out sessions organized by functional and technical roles. Beginning in June, 2008, we added user led concurrent sessions allowing for discussion on targeted topics of current interest. Since then the number of concurrent sessions has continued to expand and multiple tracks have been added. Starting in June, 2010 we grew to a two day conference format and added workshops on the first day to allow for more in depth exchange of information on selected topics.

UMBUG began with the collaborative efforts of the Twin Cities Collaboration at annual “Minnesota receptions” during the Summit conferences starting in 2006. In the late summer of 2007, the first organizational meeting for a users’ group was organized and plans were set in motion for quarterly conferences. In late 2007, when UMBUG had eight member institutions, a web site was launched and the first on-line registration began with the January 9, 2008, conference.

More detailed information can be found in the charter.
